Awards / Rewards

In 1998/99 we started an Achievement Award Scheme. One child in each year from a shortlist of three provided by the teachers was selected to receive the Achievement Award for their particular year group. The Headteacher made the final selection. No child can receive more than one Achievement Award in the course of their school career. The only exception being the Mary Thomas Award that is awarded to a Year 6 pupil who has consistently achieved well throughout their school career. Each child receives a plaque that they keep. The main awards are engraved.

This award system has each award dedicated to former teachers at the school who were nominated by former pupils from the Parish of St Peter’s. When Miss M Thomas retired, she made a donation to the school and the interest on this is given to the recipient of her award. Local companies have sponsored all the awards, i.e. the seven-year group awards and the individual children’s awards. Plaques have been purchased for a ten-year period.

In 1999/ 2000, we set up Community Awards along very similar lines but using different criteria. These awards were designed to reflect children’s contribution to the school community and the wider Parish community. Again these awards were set up for a ten-year period. A local company sponsored each award and each is dedicated to a Parishioner at St Peter’s Parish. The final Year 6 Award is dedicated to Mrs Mary Smith, a former Chair of Governors at our school.

In 2000/ 2001 we put the final set of awards in place. Again they are sponsored by local companies and will also run for ten years. These are Effort Awards. Each one is dedicated to one of our Rosminian Priests. The final award will be dedicated to Father Signini who was instrumental in establishing our Parish.

We have a monthly Good Work Assembly where children from each year group are nominated for their work. They receive a
certificate at a special assembly and are photographed. We have two copies of the photograph made and one is sent home to the
parents.

All our parents are invited to all the award ceremonies but there are times when they are unable to attend so we try to ensure that
they may mark the occasion by sending a photograph home.

Twice a year we have a ‘Pop and Buns Day.’ The first is on 1st March to celebrate St David as the Patron Saint of Wales. The second is on 29th June to celebrate the feast of St Peter and St Paul to mark the Feast Day of the Patron Saint of our Parish. All the children receive drinks and cakes / biscuits. This is funded from the small profit we make on the tuck shop and / or donations we receive.
