Pastoral Care

As a Catholic School, we cater for the welfare of our children in the widest possible sense. Any significant changes or difficulties at home that may affect the child’s behaviour and ability to cope with school life, should be reported to the Headteacher. Parents can be readily assured, that any such information will be treated with sensitivity and in the strictest confidence. If needed, there is
the additional support of the Parish Priest who is always available. We would greatly appreciate, that medicine is given at home as far as possible. Staff are not allowed to administer medication on Health and Safety grounds. Most prescribed medicines do not need to be taken in school time, your Doctor will advise you on this.

In no circumstances is a child allowed to self-administer medicine or tablets, with the exception of asthma medication.

We ask that no child be sent to school while infectious to others. This booklet does indicate some details that you may need. However, please seek medical advice if you are unsure.

If a child is receiving regular medication the parents should inform the Headteacher, in writing, of this need. The nature of the child’s condition should be clearly stated, the medication, dosage required and the estimated length of the treatment.

In the interest of safety, any requests to administer medicines should be dated and signed by theparents and all medicines taken directly to the Headteacher’s room. A responsible adult will then administer the medication at the appropriate time.

If your child is asthmatic please provide the school with a clearly labelled spare inhaler that may be stored in the classroom in a safe but accessible position. Similarly, if an EPI pen is required please ensure that we have a currently dated unit available in school.

While the school takes all reasonable care of the children, there may be an occasion, when a child is in need of care and treatment beyond that which may be provided by the school. It is essential therefore, that the school has an emergency telephone number, that can be used to contact parents or a close relative should the need arise during school hours. Please ensure that the school is well informed of any changes to these details as soon as possible.
